NYMIR represents control for its members over their own insurance future. Through an elected Board of Governors, members control the company's rates, coverages, claims handling, and risk management services.

| When the Association of Towns was established in 1933, our purpose was to help towns obtain greater economy and efficiency. | In the early 1990's, local governments were faced with difficulties in obtaining insurance coverage. As a service to its 62 member counties, the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) addressed this insurance crisis by working to establish the New York Municipal Insurance Reciprocal (NYMIR). Over the years since its inception, NYMIR has proven itself to be a leader in providing cost effective and comprehensive insurance coverage to hundreds of local governments across the state of New York. NYSAC remains an active supporter and advisor to NYMIR, and is proud of the insurance coverage and risk management services which NYMIR offers to local governments.
